This was taken during one of Peter Gzowski's famous invitational golf tournaments. Peter created the PGI's to raise money for literacy in Canada. We were there to play golf on river ice.

Michael and Mr. Dressup

Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup) and I were returning south from a golf tournament in Cambridge Bay. He was the most popular of us all. Everywhere we went, people wanted pictures taken with him. And we were there with some very famous Canadians: Silken Laumann, Ashley McIsaac, Colin Adjun, Colin James, to name a few.

I invited Ernie to Opening Night of the play, A PROMISE IS A PROMISE, that was staged at the Young People's Theatre in Toronto. His granddaugther played one of the kids in the play.

Storytelling

This was taken in Telc in the Czech Republic. Czech TV was filming my illustrator, Vladyana, and I for a documentary called THE UNLIKELY COUPLE.

Vladyana the Illustrator

I went to Toronto to help Vladyana with her illustrations for the book, NORTHERN LIGHTS, THE SOCCER TRAILS. That amaut her daughter is wearing is one I borrowed from Rhoda Karetak. The bead work, done by her mother, I think, was done with real sinew and was deteriorating. The bead work appears throughout the book and the whole amaut appears as an illustration in the last picture in the book.

Vladyana and I autographed books one morning during an IRA (International Reading Association) conference in Toronto. About 15,000 people were at the conference. We autographed books from 9:00 am to noon.
